Former NAREIT President Arthur Viner Dies at Age 92

Former NAREIT Board of Governors President Arthur Viner, who founded REIT sponsor Investors Central  Management Corp. , died June 19 at the age of 92.

Viner’s tenure at Investors Central Management Corp., which sponsored three REITs that were listed on the New York Stock Exchange, ran from 1958 to 1991. He held the positions of president and CEO of the company during that period.

American Residential Execs Single-Family Home Acquisitions to Continue

The executive team of single-family housing REIT American Residential Properties (NYSE: ARPI), president and COO Laurie Hawkes and chairman and CEO Stephen Schmitz, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

American Residential acquired 700 homes in the first quarter of the year. Schmitz talked about the pace of transactions in the quarter and the likelihood it would hold up going forward.

“We think that’s a well-measured pace,” Schmitz said.

Gramercy Property Trust Transitions to Net Lease Property Ownership

Gordan DuGan, CEO of Gramercy Property Trust (NYSE: GPT), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Gramercy has transformed from a real estate finance company to a net lease property owner. DuGan was asked how the transition has been received by the market and if there is more work to be done to complete the transformation.

“The good news is that there’s no more work to be done in the transformation, and it’s been received extremely well,” DuGan said.

Jeff Edison, chairman and CEO of Phillips Edison-ARC Shopping Center REIT, a public, non-listed REIT (PNLR), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

With more than 100 properties in its portfolio, Edison was asked to comment on the company’s strategy going forward. Edison responded that the focus is on looking at some of the “strategic alternatives” for Phillips Edison-ARC Shopping Center REIT  and raising funds for a second PNLR.
