Analyst Expects Hotel REIT RevPAR Acceleration in First Half of 2015

C. Patrick Scholes, managing director with SunTrust Robinson Humphrey, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Scholes said healthy fundamentals in the hotel REIT sector are likely to continue into 2015, based on a favorable supply-and-demand balance. Revenue per available room (RevPAR) should accelerate in the first half of 2015, according to Scholes.

RBC Capital Markets Banker Expecting “Healthier” REIT IPO Market

John Brady, managing director of RBC Capital Markets, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Brady discussed action in the initial public offering (IPO) market for REITs in 2014, noting that activity “is more back-ended this year than it has been in prior years.”

Going forward, Brady predicts a “healthier” IPO market in general with an uptick in the number of offerings.

Knott offered an assessment of the valuations of health care properties in the current market. Deals that have taken place in the health care REIT sector in 2014 have helped to drive the value of health care real estate assets up “dramatically” and boosted the interest of capital markets in the sector, according to Knott.

Host Hotels CEO: International Business will Expand, but Remain Small Part of Overall Portfolio

W. Edward Walter, chairman and CEO of Host Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: HST), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Walter outlined the lodging REIT’s international strategy, noting that Host started to invest outside North America in 2006 when it acquired a portfolio of hotels from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. under brand names that included Westin, Sheraton, W, St. Regis and The Luxury Collection.
