Host Hotels CEO: International Business will Expand, but Remain Small Part of Overall Portfolio

W. Edward Walter, chairman and CEO of Host Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: HST), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Walter outlined the lodging REIT’s international strategy, noting that Host started to invest outside North America in 2006 when it acquired a portfolio of hotels from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. under brand names that included Westin, Sheraton, W, St. Regis and The Luxury Collection.

HCP CEO: Demographic Trends in Health Care Attractive to Investors

Lauralee Martin, president and CEO of HCP, Inc. (NYSE: HCP), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Martin predicted continued interest in the health care sector for 2015.

“There’s a lot of money that’s interested in health care. It’s a sector that has demographics that are very attractive to investors,” Martin observed.

Analysis: Hotel Occupancy Levels Expected to Hit 30-Year High by 2016

Limited new development in the hotel sector is expected to push national hotel occupancy rates to their highest level in 30 years, according to a report from financial and professional service firm JLL.

JLL projected that hotel occupancy would approach 65 percent by 2016, resulting in growth for the average daily rate (ADR) for rooms charged in the industry.

Dan Hansen, president and CEO of  (NYSE: INN), said the report underscores the strong demand and occupancy gains he sees across his company’s portfolio.

Bill Meaney, president and CEO of Iron Mountain (NYSE: IRM), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Iron Mountain, which is included in the S&P 500 Index, is a storage and information management company. The company converted to a REIT earlier this year. Meaney noted that Iron Mountain elected to become a REIT because it best suited the company’s capital allocation model and allowed it to effectively double its dividend.

NAREIT Chair David Neithercut, the president and CEO of Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Neithercut’s tenure as NAREIT’s chair began this month. He described the current state of the REIT industry as “terrific,” noting that the absolute market cap of the REIT industry is approaching $ 900 billion and that the total enterprise value of the industry is approaching $ 2 trillion.
