Marty Cicco, senior managing director with Evercore Partners, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Cicco discussed the future of the single-family housing sector and the possibilities for more initial public offerings (IPOs) in the group down the road. Cicco said he believes the proliferation of single-family REITs is likely to be a “short-term phenomenon.” He indicated that the challenges of operating a single-family residential portfolio could deter new entrants from coming into the marketplace.

Off-Market Deals Benefitting ROIC, CEO Says

Stuart Tanz, president and CEO of Retail Opportunity Investments Corp. (NYSE: ROIC), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Tanz was asked about the level of competition in the transactions market and sourcing for potential acquisitions. With capital “readily available,” Tanz said competition for available assets has intensified, but he feels ROIC’s extended history on the West Coast has given the company an advantage.

Gale Sees Greater Growth Opportunities in Development Over Acquisitions

Barden Gale, vice chairman with Mack Real Estate Group (MREG), joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Gale joined MREG in October. The company is primarily involved in developing multifamily residential rental projects in urban markets. Gale noted that the firm is catering to renters in the millennial generation and “empty nesters” whose children have moved out of the home.

PwC Investor Survey Highlights Positive Growth Outlook in Real Estate

Investors expect positive trends to continue in the commercial real estate industry for the rest of 2014 despite anticipating rising interest rates, according to consulting firm PwC.

A PwC survey of real estate investors in the second quarter of 2014 noted that respondents expressed confidence that the industry would handle anticipated increases in interest rates without serious disruption to its recovery.

At the same time, competition among buyers is likely to remain strong and keep prices for the best properties elevated, the PwC survey said.

Dynex Capital CEO Expects Interest Rates to Remain Low

Byron Boston, president, CEO and co-chief investment officer of Dynex Capital, Inc. (NYSE: DX), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Boston was asked to explain the investment philosophy behind the mortgage REIT.

“Our overall philosophy is one of executing a simple strategy with a keen eye on managing our overall risk exposure,” he explained.

Crown Castle CEO says REIT Model Provides “Right Long-Term Structure”

Ben Moreland, president and CEO of Crown Castle International Corp. (NYSE: CCI), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Crown Castle went public in 1998, but didn’t begin operating as a stock exchange-listed REIT until the beginning of 2014. Moreland was asked to comment on the decision to elect REIT status.

“We thought the REIT corporate organization was the right long-term structure for us,” Moreland said, noting that Crown Castle has thought of itself as a real estate company since inception.

Forest City Enterprises CEO Positive on Office, Multifamily, Retail Fundamentals

David LaRue, president and CEO of Forest City Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: FCE.A), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Forest City owns, operates and develops properties in the office,  multifamily,  and retail sectors. LaRue analyzed some of the major trends in each of the company’s sectors.

“We’re very positive on the office piece of our portfolio,” LaRue said.
