FTSE Nareit All REITs Index Down 2.4% in September

REIT returns slipped in September, with interest rate concerns undercutting gains made during the previous month.

The total returns of the FTSE Nareit All REITs Index fell 2.4 percent in September, while the S&P 500 rose 0.6 percent. In August, the FTSE Nareit All REITs Index rose 2.3 percent. The total returns of the FTSE Nareit Mortgage REIT Index fell 1.0 percent in September, while the yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose 0.2 percent. In August, the yield on the 10-year Treasury note was flat.

Welltower Named to 2018 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, Joins Kilroy Realty

Welltower Inc. (NYSE: WELL) has been named to the 2018 Dow Jones Sustainability World Index, and is the only health care REIT to be included in the index. Welltower was also named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index for the third consecutive year.

Kilroy Realty Corp. (NYSE: KRC) is also listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index.

Nareit Offers Comments on Proposed Section 199A Regulations

In a letter submitted to the Treasury Department and the IRS on Oct. 1, Nareit offered comments regarding the Proposed Section 199A Regulations (Proposed Regulations) issued Aug. 16. Nareit’s primary request is for Treasury and IRS confirmation that both direct holders of REIT stock and indirect shareholders of REITs through mutual funds receive section 199A’s 20 percent deduction for qualified REIT dividends.
