Investors Looking for Real Estate Deals in U.K. After Brexit

In the latest episode of The REIT Report: NAREIT’s Weekly Podcast, Jahn Brodwin, senior managing director with FTI Consulting, offered his analysis of the Brexit’s effect on property markets in the United Kingdom.

Brodwin said measuring the impact of the Brexit on property values in the U.K. has proven to be difficult as transactions have halted since the vote. Additionally, a number of real estate investment funds have suspended trading, adding to the difficulty.

KPMG Partner Expects Leasing to Continue After Implementing New Reporting Standard

Kimber Bascom, partner in the KPMG Department of Professional Practice, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWise 2015: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference held in Phoenix.

Bascom downplayed concerns that the new leases standard will end leasing activity.

“There are many good reasons why leasing activity will continue to go on even after the accounting standards change,” he said.

TRIA Extension Headed for Obama’s Signature After Senate Passage

The U.S. Senate passed the “Terrorism Risk Insurance Program Reauthorization Act of 2015” (H.R. 26) on Jan. 8 by a vote of 93-4. Following passage of the bill in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 416-5 on Jan. 7, the Senate vote clears the way for President Obama to sign the bill into law and reauthorize the Terrorism Risk Insurance Act (TRIA) through 2020.
