Quick Study: REIT Gains Underscore Favorable Conditions

In the latest edition of Quick Study, Brad Case, NAREIT’s senior vice president for research and industry information, said REIT market gains in October provided some comfort to investors and showed that conditions are in place for continued growth.

The total returns of the FTSE/NAREIT All REIT Index rose 6.1 percent in October, while the S&P 500 Index gained 8.4 percent. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note was up 0.1 percent for the month. As of Oct. 30, REIT total returns were up 1.3 percent for the year, while the S&P 500 Index was up 2.7 percent.

Survey Forecasts Favorable Real Estate Conditions for Next 3 Years

The commercial real estate market is set to enjoy mostly favorable conditions through 2017, according to the latest three-year consensus forecast from the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Center for Capital Markets and Real Estate.

While the latest semi-annual outlook is slightly less bullish compared with six months ago, the majority of indicators in the forecast signal favorable economic conditions and capital markets in the United States.

STAG Industrial CEO Says REIT Enjoying Favorable Leasing Conditions

Benjamin Butcher, president and CEO of STAG Industrial, Inc. (NYSE: STAG), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2015: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

STAG is a Boston-based REIT focused on the acquisition and operation of single-tenant, industrial properties throughout the United States.

Butcher told REIT.com that the dynamics for favorable leasing conditions have improved during the last year.
