EY Partner: Slow Progress Toward Global Convergence on Accounting Standards

Serena Wolfe, partner at professional services firm EY, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWise 2015: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference held in Phoenix.

Wolfe commented on the possibility of reaching global convergence on accounting standards.

“We as a firm are fully supportive of a single set of high-quality financial standards that are applied globally,” she said. “I think we are moving towards that.”

REIT Investors Benefit from Sustainability Reporting Convergence, Forest City Executive Says

Jill Ziegler, director of sustainability and corporate responsibility with Forest City Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: FCE.A), joined REIT.com for a video interview at NAREIT’s 2015 Leader in the Light Working Forum in Reston, Va.

Ziegler said Forest City learned “a lot” in putting out its first sustainability report to the public a year ago.

“We’ve received a really good response from all of our stakeholders, including our internal associates as well as external stakeholders like investors,” she said.

APREA Chief Sees Convergence in International REIT Rules

Peter Verwer, chief executive of the Asia-Pacific Real Estate Association (APREA), joined REIT.com at NAREIT headquarters in Washington for a video interview.

Verwer took over as head of APREA this year from former chief executive Peter Mitchell. Verwer discussed some of his priorities for the organization. He described the current environment in the Asia-Pacific market as “one of the greatest opportunities for real estate wealth creation that we’ve ever seen.” As such, he said his chief objective is to expand opportunities for real estate investment in Asia.
