Broadstone Real Estate Co-Founder Norman Leenhouts Dies at Age 81

Broadstone Real Estate, LLC on Jan. 9 announced the death of co-founder and senior advisor Norman Leenhouts. Leenhouts, who died at his home on Jan. 7, was 81.

In 2006, Leenhouts co-founded Broadstone Real Estate with his daughter, Amy Tait, and her husband, Bob Tait. He served as chief investment officer of Broadstone Real Estate and as an officer and director of the firm’s two private REITs, Broadstone Net Lease and Broadtree Residential, from their inception until 2015. After that, he was a senior advisor to Broadstone Real Estate.

Kilroy Realty Founder Jim Kilroy Dies at 94

John B. “Jim” Kilroy, Sr. died on Sept. 29 at the age of 94, according to multiple media reports.

Kilroy began his career in the real estate industry in 1947 with the founding of Kilroy Industries, which incorporated five years later. The privately held company focused on serving the defense and aerospace industries after World War II.

REIT Industry Veteran Ralph Block Dies

Ralph Block, a leading authority on REITs and an active participant in the industry for several decades, died on Sept. 6.

Block was the author of the book “Investing in REITs,” now in its fourth edition. He also authored The Essential REIT, a newsletter dedicated to REITs and REIT investing. In addition, Block was a regular contributor to REIT magazine, and he wrote weekly blog posts on REIT investing for SNL Financial.

Former NAREIT President Arthur Viner Dies at Age 92

Former NAREIT Board of Governors President Arthur Viner, who founded REIT sponsor Investors Central  Management Corp. , died June 19 at the age of 92.

Viner’s tenure at Investors Central Management Corp., which sponsored three REITs that were listed on the New York Stock Exchange, ran from 1958 to 1991. He held the positions of president and CEO of the company during that period.
