In the latest edition of Fundamentally Speaking, Calvin Schnure, NAREIT’s senior vice president for research and economic analysis, assessed the state of the REIT market at the mid-year point.
Economic news has been mixed so far this year, Schnure said, with overall gross domestic product data “fairly weak.”

CYS Investments owns mortgage securities guaranteed by Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac or Ginnie Mae.
Grant offered an overview of how CYS operates and how the company differs from an Equity REIT.

“Equity REITs cash flows are really well-positioned for the interest rate environment ahead,” Schnure said.
Tyler Morse, CEO of MCR Development, joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at NAREIT’s 2015 Washington Leadership Forum.
MCR Development maintains an active renovation platform and is currently renovating approximately 30 hotels in its portfolio. Morse said the firm is focusing on renovations that “impact the consumers most directly.” These include changes to rooms to accommodate personal electronic devices.
