Fund Manager Says REITs Appear Undervalued

Matthew Werner, portfolio manager at Chilton Capital Management, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWorld 2016: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge.

Werner offered advice to generalist investors who are considering entering the REIT market.

“At the end of the day, the ‘location, location, location’ thesis is something that should not be ignored at all,” Werner stressed. “Being mindful of risk should always be a top-of-mind decision when looking at a company.”

REIT Volatility Defined First Half, Fund Manager Says

Joel Beam, managing director at Salient Partners, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWeek 2016: NAREIT’s Investor Forum at the Waldorf Astoria New York.

According to Beam, volatility has been the dominant theme for REITs in the first half of 2016.

“Volatility really has been the story from our point of view, and I think it’s really what gives investment managers that challenge of staying steady at the wheel,” he said.

Looking to the second half, Beam said he will be focused on “the landscape of returns.”

Sherry Rexroad, chief investment officer with BlackRock Global Real Estate Securities, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWeek 2016: NAREIT’s Investor Forum at the Waldorf Astoria New York.

Rexroad offered perspective on the level of volatility in commercial real estate markets. She stressed that volatility has largely been driven by macroeconomic and monetary policy, rather than real estate fundamentals.

Shigekawa discussed the impact of  the United Kingdom’s upcoming referendum regarding membership in the European Union and what it means for property markets in both England and on the Continent in Europe.

Fund Manager Says Global Markets Seeking New Equilibrium

Sherry Rexroad, chief investment officer at BlackRock Global Real Estate Securities, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWorld 2015: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Wynn Las Vegas.

Rexroad commented on the level of investor appetite for risk, given the deceleration of growth in China.

“The global markets are really trying to come to a new equilibrium, one that’s not as dependent on the Federal Reserve or supercharged growth out of China,” Rexroad said.
