Lodging REIT LaSalle Hotel Properties Focused on Organic Growth

Michael Barnello, president and CEO of LaSalle Hotel Properties (NYSE: LHO), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2016: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge.

Barnello reflected on the current state of the lodging sector. During the last couple of years, “supply has been increasing while demand has not been as strong,” he said. While Barnello expects the trend to continue into 2017, he stressed that this is a normal development in the sector.

FelCor Lodging Looking to Create Value from Sales

Richard Smith, president and CEO of FelCor Lodging Trust, Inc. (NYSE: FCH), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2015: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Wynn Las Vegas.

In September, FelCor sold the final hotel in its disposition program. Since that time, the company has said it would make opportunistic asset sales. Smith explained the strategy.

“It’s really to create capacity as we move through the cycle and open up the use of proceeds for things that will be higher yielding,” he said.

Investment Strategist Remains Optimistic About Lodging, Suburban Office Real Estate

Tim Pire, managing director with Heitman, joined REIT.com for a video interview at NAREIT’s 2015 Washington Leadership Forum.

Pire said he remains optimistic with regard to prospects in the lodging and suburban office markets. The lodging sector is benefitting from continuing improvement in the economy and limited supply, Pire said. Corporate earnings reports and forecasts for 2015 have also been positive, he noted. Suburban office, meanwhile, has benefitted from the expansion in employment, Pire said.
