REIT CEOs Look Ahead to 2017

REIT CEOs shared their perspectives on the outlook for 2017 during a series of video interviews held at REITWorld 2016: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge.

Tim Naughton, the 2017 NAREIT Chair and the chairman and CEO of AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (NYSE: AVB), stressed that committee assignments in Congress and the prospect of tax reform on the policy agenda means “we need to make sure our industry’s voice is heard.”

Real Estate Fundamentals Look Solid, Says REIT Analyst

Paul Adornato, managing director at BMO Capital Markets, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWeek 2016: NAREIT’s Investor Forum at the Waldorf Astoria New York.

Adornato said most real estate sectors are “looking pretty good” for the second half of the year: Although November’s general election is a “wild card,” the economy remains on a slow-growth track, which is positive for REITs.

A Closer Look at Externally Advised REITs from Green Street Advisors

Phil Owens, senior vice president for advisory and consulting at Green Street Advisors, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWeek 2016: NAREIT’s Investor Forum at the Waldorf Astoria New York.

Owens commented on the newer breeds of externally advised REITs that have emerged recently.

Today, the externally advised REITs impose a single fee and operate with an alignment of interest between the external advisor and the REIT shareholders, he explained.
