IPO Market on Hold as Volatility Keeps Companies Sidelined, NYSE Manager Says

Ron Bohlert, managing director of the Global Client Services Group at the New York Stock Exchange, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWise 2016: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference at the Marriott Marquis in Washington, D.C.

Bohlert attributed the recent slowdown in REIT initial public offering (IPO) activity to volatility in the equity markets, triggered in part by the economic situation in China and continued pressure on oil prices.

NYSE Manager Sees Healthy REIT IPO Pipeline for 2015

Ron Bohlert, manager of global listings at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWise 2015: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference held in Phoenix.

Bohlert noted that initial public offering (IPO) activity during 2014 was “incredibly successful for the NYSE.” There were a total of 117 IPOs, which raised a total amount of $ 65 billion. While the Alibaba Group IPO contributed a sizeable portion of that total, “in terms of the number of deals and capital raised, it was still very successful on all fronts,” he said.

NAREIT Rings Closing Bell at NYSE

Leading up to REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, NAREIT was on hand June 2 at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell. The NYSE recognized 18 REITs celebrating the 20th anniversaries of listing on the exchange. At the end of 1994, the year these companies listed on the NYSE, the equity market capitalization of the FTSE NAREIT All REITs Index was $ 44 billion. Today the index has an equity market capitalization approaching $ 800 billion.

NYSE Executive Says REIT IPO Pipeline Relatively Dry

Ron Bohlert, managing director of the global corporate client group of the NYSE, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWise 2014: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference held in Boca Raton, Fla.

Bohlert was asked to discuss some of the initial trends in the market for REIT initial public offerings (IPOs) in 2014. Bohlert described the 2013 IPO market as “incredibly active.” Overall, 230 companies listed on the NYSE last year, generating approximately $ 55 billion in new capital. Seventeen REITs listed and raised a combined total of $ 4.5 billion.

New York REIT Lists on NYSE

New York REIT, Inc., (NYSE: NYRT), which was created in September 2010 as a public, non-listed REIT, began trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) April 15.

Shares of the company’s stock opened at a price of $ 10.70 and were trading around $ 10.37 by late afternoon.

The company, which was previously known as American Realty Capital New York Recovery REIT, Inc., focuses on acquiring and operating a portfolio of institutional-quality office and retail properties in New York.
