A fragmented market and growing demand for rental housing puts larger companies in the single-family rental sector in a strong competitive position, according to some market observers.
In a webinar hosted by real estate research firm Green Street Advisors, Don Mullen, CEO and chief investment officer of Progress Residential Master Trust, a private REIT, said current conditions are creating “tremendous opportunity” in the sector.
Richard Smith, president and CEO of FelCor Lodging Trust Inc. (NYSE: FCH), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2015: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.
FelCor is currently undertaking a multiyear repositioning initiative program. Smith said the company has made “tremendous progress” on the initiative.
“We had a ton of stuff to do,” Smith said. “Everything had to change.”
Nelson Mills, president and CEO of Columbia Property Trust Inc. (NYSE: CXP), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2015: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.
Founded in 2003, Columbia Property Trust is one of the nation’s largest office REITs. The company listed its shares on the New York Stock Exchange in October 2013.
Serena Wolfe, partner at professional services firm EY, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWise 2015: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference held in Phoenix.
Wolfe commented on the possibility of reaching global convergence on accounting standards.
“We as a firm are fully supportive of a single set of high-quality financial standards that are applied globally,” she said. “I think we are moving towards that.”
John Forester, director of energy and sustainability at REIT Management & Research LLC, joined REIT.com for a video interview at NAREIT’s 2015 Leader in the Light Working Forum in Reston, Va.
REIT Management & Research is a private company that manages publicly traded REITs. Forester noted that the company has sought to improve the process of collecting and aggregating data across its asset base by investing in a new platform that allows for the collection of information “other than what is typically shown on an invoice.”
Tom Wilkin, real estate partner with accounting firm PwC, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWise 2014: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference held in Boca Raton, Fla.
Wilkin was asked about the progress made by standard setters at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) and International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) to converge financial reporting requirements.
