Mark Decker Sr., vice chairman at BMO Capital Markets, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWeek 2016: NAREIT’s Investor Forum at the Waldorf Astoria New York.
Decker previously served as NAREIT president, and was at the helm of the association when the 1986 Tax Reform Act was passed.
Decker remarked that at the time of passage, the REIT model was not very well known, nor well-established.
Denny Oklak, chairman and CEO of Duke Realty Corp. (NYSE: DRE), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2015: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Wynn Las Vegas.
Oklak, who is stepping down as CEO at the end of the year, reflected on his tenure at the helm of Duke.
Oklak pointed out that as CEO for almost 12 years, he has been able to accomplish many of the goals he set for the company.

Equity Commonwealth is one of the largest commercial office REITs in the United States. In May 2014, a new board of trustees and management team were appointed to lead the company, formerly known as CommonWealth REIT, including Sam Zell as board chairman.

Home Properties is celebrating the 20th anniversary of its listing on the New York Stock Exchange. Pettinella reflected on what the milestone means for the company.
Michael Happel, president of New York REIT, Inc. (NYSE: NYRT), joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.
New York REIT started as a public, non-listed REIT (PNLR) before listing on the NYSE in April. Happel was asked about market reaction to the listing.
“The market response has been fantastic,” he said. He explained that the listing had two main purposes – to provide liquidity to existing shareholders as well as to provide the company with long-term access to public market debt and equity.
