Fundamentally Speaking: September Jobs Report Shows Economy Gathering Momentum

In the latest edition of Fundamentally Speaking, Calvin Schnure, NAREIT’s vice president for research and industry information, reviewed the September jobs report and what it says about broader economic trends.

Non-farm payrolls rose by 248,000 in September, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. “That’s a solid number just by itself,” Schnure said, adding that prior months were also revised upward. “The weakness in late summer was not quite as pronounced as we thought before.”

PwC Survey Shows Consistent Signs of Strength in Office, Health Care Real Estate

Real estate investors remain bullish, especially regarding the office and health care sectors, according to a survey conducted by consulting firm PwC.

PwC’s survey of real estate investors in the third quarter of 2014, released Sept. 15, indicated that the office sector is showing consistent signs of strengthening. Most geographic markets are expected to be in either the recovery or expansion phase of the real estate cycle during the next four years.

GRESB 2014 Survey Shows Improvement in Sustainability in Real Estate Industry

The Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB) 2014 Survey results released Sept. 4 point to strong improvement in the sustainability performance of the global real estate industry as a whole, according to GRESB.

The survey looked at data from listed property companies and private equity real estate funds around the world. In total, the respondents’ portfolios cover 56,000 buildings with an aggregate value of $ 2.1 trillion.

Brick-and-Mortar Stores to Remain Cornerstone of Retail, Study Shows

Brick-and-mortar stores continue to be customers’ preferred shopping channel, and are crucial in generating online sales for retailers, according to a new study by global management consulting firm A.T. Kearney.

According to A.T. Kearney analysis, 90 percent of all U.S. retail sales in 2013 were transacted in stores, and 95 percent of sales were accounted for by retailers with a brick-and-mortar presence.
