REIT Insurance Experts Outline Changes to NAREIT D&O Insurance Program

Melissa Lishner, a director at Crystal & Co., and Michael Chu, vice president and national practice leader for REITs at Arch Insurance Group, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWise 2015: NAREIT’s Law, Accounting and Finance Conference held in Phoenix.

Crystal is the program administrator for NAREIT’s group Directors and Officers (D&O) Liability insurance program, which is underwritten by Arch.

Lishner outlined the process and rationale for recent changes to the NAREIT D&O insurance program.

New NAREIT Chair Says Educating Investors on REIT Investing His Top Priority

NAREIT Chair David Neithercut, the president and CEO of Equity Residential (NYSE: EQR), joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Neithercut’s tenure as NAREIT’s chair began this month. He described the current state of the REIT industry as “terrific,” noting that the absolute market cap of the REIT industry is approaching $ 900 billion and that the total enterprise value of the industry is approaching $ 2 trillion.

NAREIT Announces 2015 Leadership, Neithercut Elected Chair

The National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) today announced the election of its 2015 officers, as well as the members of its Executive Board, the organization’s sole governing board.

Elected Chair was David J. Neithercut, President and CEO of Equity Residential. Neithercut takes the place of NAREIT’s 2014 Chair, Ronald L. Havner, Jr., Chairman, CEO and President of Public Storage.

Former NAREIT President Arthur Viner Dies at Age 92

Former NAREIT Board of Governors President Arthur Viner, who founded REIT sponsor Investors Central Management Corp. , died June 19 at the age of 92.

Viner’s tenure at Investors Central Management Corp., which sponsored three REITs that were listed on the New York Stock Exchange, ran from 1958 to 1991. He held the positions of president and CEO of the company during that period.

NAREIT Announces 2014 Investor CARE Award Winners

The winners of NAREIT’s 2014 Investor CARE Awards were announced on June 4 in New York at REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum. This is the 14th year that NAREIT has handed out the annual awards, which honor excellence in communications and reporting to shareholders.

In the large cap equity REIT category, the gold award went to Camden Property Trust (NYSE:CPT). Boston Properties (NYSE: BXP) received the silver award, while the bronze award went to Health Care REIT, Inc. (NYSE: HCN).

NAREIT Rings Closing Bell at NYSE

Leading up to REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, NAREIT was on hand June 2 at the New York Stock Exchange to ring the closing bell. The NYSE recognized 18 REITs celebrating the 20th anniversaries of listing on the exchange. At the end of 1994, the year these companies listed on the NYSE, the equity market capitalization of the FTSE NAREIT All REITs Index was $ 44 billion. Today the index has an equity market capitalization approaching $ 800 billion.
