Host Hotels CEO: International Business will Expand, but Remain Small Part of Overall Portfolio

W. Edward Walter, chairman and CEO of Host Hotels & Resorts (NYSE: HST), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Walter outlined the lodging REIT’s international strategy, noting that Host started to invest outside North America in 2006 when it acquired a portfolio of hotels from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. under brand names that included Westin, Sheraton, W, St. Regis and The Luxury Collection.

REITs a Cornerstone of UPS Pension Portfolio

Greg Spick, portfolio manager of real assets with the UPS Group Trust, joined REIT.com in October for an video interview to discuss his approaching to real estate investing.

Spick helps manage the pension assets of the employees of delivery firm UPS. The pension fund has nearly $ 30 billion in assets. Real estate and real assets make up roughly $ 2 billion of the entire portfolio.

Portfolio Manager Sees Sustained Period of Low Interest Rates and Supply

Scott Crowe, global portfolio manager at Resource Real Estate, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Crowe was asked about the impact of the slow economic recovery on asset allocation and where investors are most focused right now. Crowe explained that a slow pace of recovery is actually good for real estate because it means that interest rates are going to stay low “and there are not enough animal spirits to really start development.”

CEO Says STAG Industrial Benefitting from Diverse Portfolio

Ben Butcher, chairman, president and CEO of STAG Industrial, Inc. (NYSE: STAG), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Butcher discussed his company’s acquisition activity, which picked up in April after a slow start to the year.

“We pride ourselves on our agnosticity with regard to assets. We’re really looking for assets that produce great cash flows and we are willing to go to anywhere in the secondary and primary markets in the U.S. where we find those,” Butcher explained.
