Investment Strategist Highlights Fundamentals Driving REIT Share Gains

Glenn Mueller, a University of Denver professor and real estate investment strategist at Dividend Capital Group, joined REIT.com for a video interview at REITWorld 2014: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis.

Mueller stressed that job growth has been a key indicator for real estate investors to consider. He explained that in 2014, average monthly employment growth averaged more than 200,000 jobs, compared with about 100,000 per month in the prior few years.

Fundamentally Speaking: Commercial Real Estate Fundamentals Sound Despite Volatility

In the latest edition of Fundamentally Speaking, Calvin Schnure, NAREIT’s vice president for research and industry information, observed that commercial real estate fundamentals remain sound despite stock market volatility during October.

Schnure explained that movements in the stock market in October mostly reflected concerns about global growth and the impact of the global economy on the United States. Worries about the strength of the U.S. dollar and its impact on U.S. firms that repatriate their foreign earnings also played a factor, according to Schnure.

Commercial Real Estate Poised to Gain from Positive Market Fundamentals in 2015

The commercial real estate industry is poised for broad-based growth in the coming year as performance and profitability continue to improve across most property types and markets, according to projections from consulting firm Deloitte.

The company’s 2015 outlook is supported by improving property fundamentals, a strengthening economy, easy financing, and increased domestic and international investment activity, according to Deloitte. Against that backdrop, U.S. REITs are expected to continue to outperform benchmark indices such as the S&P 500 and Russell 2000.

Quick Study: REITs Gain in August as Investors Grow Comfortable with Fundamentals

In the latest edition of Quick Study, Brad Case, NAREIT’s senior vice president for research and industry information, offered an analysis of REIT market gains in August.

The total return on the FTSE NAREIT All REITs Index increased 3.4 percent for the month, slightly below the 4.0 percent gain in the S&P 500 Index during the same period. As of the end of August, the FTSE NAREIT All REITs Index was up 19.8 percent, compared to a 9.9 percent gain for the broader market.

“REITs are strongly outperforming… real estate investors have really been rewarded,” Case said.

Green Street Analyst Sees Solid Fundamentals in Industrial REIT Sector

Eric Frankel, analyst at Green Street Advisors, joined REIT.com for a video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Frankel discussed developments in the industrial REIT sector during the first half of the year. Industrial fundamentals have been good for the past few years, said Frankel, noting that the recovery in the industrial sector started relatively slowly when the economy first began to improve about four years ago.

“It’s been pretty smooth sailing,” he observed.

David LaRue, president and CEO of Forest City Enterprises, Inc. (NYSE: FCE.A), joined REIT.com for a CEO Spotlight video interview during REITWeek 2014: NAREIT’s Investor Forum, held in New York.

Forest City owns, operates and develops properties in the office,  multifamily,  and retail sectors. LaRue analyzed some of the major trends in each of the company’s sectors.
