On Nov. 16 at REITWorld 2016: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT, NAREIT announced the nine winners of its annual Leader in the Light Awards. They honor NAREIT member companies that have demonstrated superior and sustained sustainability practices.
At REITWorld 2016: NAREIT’s Annual Convention for All Things REIT on Nov. 15, NAREIT honored Steve Buller, portfolio manager at Fidelity Investments, and David Henry, retired vice chairman, president and CEO of Kimco Realty Corp. (NYSE: KIM), for their contributions to the REIT industry.
NAREIT has announced the election of its 2017 officers, as well as the members of its Executive Board, Advisory Board of Governors, and Audit and Investment Committee.
NAREIT’s new Chair is Timothy Naughton, chairman and CEO of AvalonBay Communities, Inc. (NYSE: AVB). Naughton takes over from Edward Fritsch, president and CEO of Highwoods Properties, Inc. (NYSE: HIW).

Half-way through his term as 2016 NAREIT Chair, Fritsch observed that fundamentals across the REIT industry are “healthy.”
“Balance sheets are improved, dividends are fortified (and) interest in investment is strong,” he noted.
The winners of NAREIT’s 2016 Investor CARE Awards, which honor excellence in communications and reporting to shareholders, were announced on June 7 in New York at REITWeek 2016: NAREIT’s Investor Forum.
In the latest edition of Fundamentally Speaking, Calvin Schnure, NAREIT’s senior vice president for research and economic analysis, said NAREIT’s T-Tracker series points to solid operating performances by REITs in the fourth quarter of 2015.
Melissa Lishner, director at Crystal & Company, and Jeff Zaffino, underwriting manager at Arch Insurance Company, joined REIT.com for a video interview to discuss the latest coverage changes incorporated into NAREIT’s Directors and Officers (D&O) Liability Insurance Program.
